How it’s made

Every piece starts as a single strip of cloth.

Fugu — also called batakari — is the hand-woven pride of Northern Ghana. Weavers work narrow strips on wooden looms, then the strips are sewn together and finished by hand. No two pieces are exactly alike.

  1. Spun & dyed — cotton yarn in rich, lasting colours.
  2. Strip-woven — narrow strips woven on wooden looms.
  3. Hand-sewn — strips joined, embroidered and finished by hand.
